PRINZ uses the following foils for its different products

1. For the production of their stamp mounts PRINZ Verlag GmbH exclusively use Polystyrol foil.
2. PRINZ System pages are manufactured from Polyester foil and ph neutral cardboard.
3. All other PRINZ foil products are manufactured exclusively from hard-PVC or Polypropylene (PPN).

Additional Information regarding storage of stamps

Humidity and temperature can dramatically affect the safe storage of stamps. Because of these influences it is difficult to offer a 100% safe storage system. We would always recommend that stamps and any archive material, regardless of what type of system they are housed in, should be stored in a suitable environment to avoid the adverse affects of humidity and temperature. Periodic checking of the stored material should also be undertaken.

Stamps contain layers of different materials, from the gum on the reverse, the actual paper the ink and in some cases phosphor of fluorescent coatings.
Changes in humidity and temperature will affect these different elements of the stamp. A stable environment is essential to avoid any changes such as expansion or contraction to each or all of the elements of the stamp.
Other factors that will affect the long term survival of your stamp will include avoiding excessive exposure to light, including ultraviolet light and of course dust.

We would like to point out, that in particular some stamps printed in the late 1800`s were printed using inks that lacked some of the qualities of modern inks. As a result of this instability in the ink some changes in colour may naturally occur. This is a well documented occurrence to stamps of this age. The two key factors for this are again humidity and temperature and cannot be attributed to the storage system used.

It is impossible to know what exposure to any potential harmful elements older stamps have had, in particular used stamps that may have passed through the postal system, been soaked off from covers and so on.

For a long-term storage we would recommend storing stamps in individual polystyrene foil stamp mounts made from chemically inert polystyrene, without the addition of softening agents and surface coatings. This type of material is recognized by museums and archive societies as ‘best practice’ for storing archive materials such as stamps.
